Learning Acoustic Guitar – A Beginner’s Guide

Learning acoustic guitar definitely has its challenges. From the choice of the guitar, to the choice of strings, to the choice of guitar instruction, one can easily get overwhelmed and frustrated to say the least. It’s been my experience that the best way to learn to play acoustic guitar is to have someone who knows how to play show you how to play. The very best way is live… in person… face to face. Now I know in tough economic times it’s not too practical to pay upwards of $60-$120 per month for private guitar lessons. If you can do it though, that’s by far THE best way to learn how to play guitar.

If you’re looking for another cheaper alternative to learn to play I would recommend doing it through the aid of an instructional DVD or online video lesson. This is the second best way to learn guitar – by watching someone remotely through DVD or video. You don’t get the personal conversation or feedback as you would live but you at least get the meat of the material being taught. You get the guitar lessons. You can’t ask questions but you can at least pause or rewind an online video or DVD if you’re stuck or need to review a part you don’t understand or need to practice.

Once you own a beginning guitar, this is your next step: to learn to play. How are you going to do that? Where will you start? Well, as I mentioned above, your best two choices in my opinion are learning with a beginning acoustic guitar DVD or online guitar video lessons. Hope this helps. Good luck with your playing! Continue Reading
